Additional Details

Eversource and United Illuminating have contracted with ARCA to provide this service.

Step 1 – Determine your eligibility

ENERGY STAR® Central AC or Heat Pump Rebate

Type
Home

Category

Rebate
Up to $500
  • Heating & Cooling
  • Rebates

If your heating and cooling system is more than ten years old or needs to be replaced, install an ENERGY STAR® -certified system to maximize energy savings.

Additional Details

You want your home to be comfortable year-round, and now comfort and cost can be balanced with the selection of an energy-efficient heating and cooling system for your home.

Selecting the right system, and size of system, for your home has never been more important. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, heating and cooling account for up to 56 percent of energy used in a typical U.S. home, making it the largest energy expense for most homes.

Fortunately, now there are a wide variety of energy-efficient systems available to heat and cool your home. In addition, many heating and cooling systems have supporting equipment in common, such as thermostats and ducts, which provide opportunities for more energy savings. Finding the most energy-efficient system is easy – just look for the ENERGY STAR®.  An ENERGY STAR-certified central air conditioner is 15 percent more efficient than a standard system. Those savings can add up.

How We Can Help

We help make it affordable to upgrade your heating and cooling system with rebates of $200 - or even $500 per ton up to two systems per home. Rebates apply to qualifying ENERGY STAR central air conditioning or heat pump systems.

Energy-efficient heating and cooling equipment will save you energy and money.

Call 877-WISE-USE (877-947-3873) for more information.

Rebate applications for 2020 rebates are being accepted and processed for payment. Please submit your 2020 rebate within the prescribed timeframe on the rebate form. Please contact Eversource or United Illuminating at 877-WISE-USE with questions.

There are a few kinds of HVAC systems you could have installed in your home which are dependent on where you live, square footage, construction type and cost. Listed below are the two types available for the rebate.

  • A split HVAC system is comprised of multiple sections, an indoor coil section in the ductwork and an outdoor coil section (compressor/condenser) installed on the outside of the home. Inside the home (attic, basement, closet) there may be a combined fan and air conditioning coil in one box or separate coil and fan sections which can house a gas or oil heating furnace. Note that the installed system must be a matched assembly to qualify for rebate (the two or three components must be matched; more information can be found on the AHRI Directory). Most often, all sections would require replacement to ensure the best efficiency.

Call 877-WISE-USE (877-947-3873) for more information.

Step 1 - To see which heat pump and air conditioning systems qualify for an incentive, see the "Who is eligible for a rebate and qualifying systems" section below. See the rebate application for additional eligibility requirements, terms and conditions.

Central Air Conditioner and Ducted Air Source Heat Pump Split System rebate form

Step 2 - Contact your heating and cooling contractor about what system is right for you. Rebates of $200 per system and $500 per ton and up to two systems per home are offered for eligible high-efficiency central air conditioners or ducted air source heat pump split system.

Step 3 - Have your qualifying unit installed.

Step 4 - Save time and money – click here to apply for a rebate and submit the required documentation online. Rebates are per-unit fixed amounts, paid directly to you, the consumer, or the installation contractor.

If you wish, you have the option to mail in the completed application and any documentation instead. See the application document for further details.

Call 877-WISE-USE (877-947-3873) for more information.

Residential customers of Eversource and UI are eligible for the rebates.

Qualified system must be installed in the service territory of the Participating Utility and by a licensed contractor.

A rebate of $1,000 per ton is also available in addition to the up to $500 rebate if your home is an electric heated home and you participate in Home Energy Solutions or if your home is heated by oil or propane and you qualify to participate in the Home Energy Solutions Heat Pump Pilot. Please refer to the rebate form you received during your appointment to apply for this Home Energy Solutions rebate.

Qualifying Systems

Qualifying systems are electric central air conditioning and ducted air source heat pump split systems of matched assembly, in which both the condenser unit and the evaporator coil are installed simultaneously. A matched assembly is a model combination that is listed in the AHRI Directory of Certified Equipment. A matched assembly must also include the air handler, furnace or other component that is used to determine the rating according to ANSI/AHRI STANDARD 210/240-2008. To see a list of qualifying units, download the CT Qualified Products List (QPL).

High Efficiency Furnace, Natural Gas Boiler & Boiler Circulator Pump Rebates

Instant Discount
Up to $750
  • Heating & Cooling
  • Rebates

Install a qualifying natural gas furnace, natural gas boiler, or a boiler circulator pump to reduce your home’s heating costs and save even more with instant discounts.

Additional Details

In most homes, heating is the single biggest energy expense. Replacing your old furnace, boiler or boiler circulator pump with new high-efficiency heating equipment can take a bite out of your energy costs, plus make your home more comfortable.

A furnace or boiler's efficiency is measured by annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) which tells you what percent of fuel is converted to useful heat for your home. The higher the AFUE, the more heat you get for your heating dollar. Older furnace and boiler systems have efficiencies in the range of 56 to 70 percent. High-efficiency heating systems achieve efficiencies as high as 97 percent, converting nearly all the fuel to useful heat for your home.

For more information on high efficiency systems, please visit the U.S. Department of Energy website. The site also features an easy-to-use table showing what you could save when you upgrade to an energy-efficient system.

Before you invest in a new furnace, boiler, or boiler circulator pump, make your home as energy efficient as possible. Improving insulation and sealing air leaks to stop heat loss may allow you to purchase a smaller, less expensive heating system. Home Energy Solutions can help you identify and make energy-saving improvements that are right for your home.

How We Help

We can help with instant discounts of $35 to $750 from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund to offset the cost of installing a qualifying high-efficiency heating system.

Upgrade today and warm up to savings.

HVAC CONTRACTORS:

Offer your customers high efficiency space and water heating equipment at a reduced cost without the hassle of a rebate form.

The electric and gas utilities have partnered with many Connecticut equipment distributors to offer an instant discount at your point of purchase.  Help your customers make the decision to switch to high efficiency equipment by offering it at pricing comparable to standard equipment.

When you purchase eligible equipment from a participating distributor, the instant discount amount has already been deducted from your purchase cost.  The distributor will request some information from you including the name and address of the customer and their housing type.

Now, you have the opportunity to offer your customer the equipment at a lower price because the incentive is already applied.  You saved your customer the hassle of completing and mailing a rebate form and provided them with superior, energy-saving equipment.

All Eversource, UI, CNG and SCG customers are eligible for instant discount, but only licensed contractors may purchase equipment with the rebate applied at the distributor.

Twice as efficient as older electric water heaters, ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump water heaters with a 3.0 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) or greater and 55 gallons or less of storage capacity qualify for instant discounts.

A $400 rebate is available for ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heaters with a 3.0 (UEF) or greater and more than 55 gallons of storage capacity.

Additional Details

It’s not so hard to understand why heat pump water heaters are twice as efficient as electric water heaters. They simply move heat rather than make heat, just like a refrigerator, but in reverse. While a refrigerator pulls heat from inside a box and dumps it into the surrounding room, a heat pump water heater pulls heat from the surrounding air and transfers it – at a higher temperature – into the tank to heat your water. Because they use the warm ambient air temperature to do most of the work, it is very efficient.

As the heat pump removes heat from the surrounding ambient air, it also provides a slight cooling effect. The result is dehumidification and cooling. For this reason, heat pumps work well in basements. Because they rely on surrounding air, they require at least 750 cubic feet of space around the heat pump and should not be installed in a closet or other confined space.

We help make it affordable to upgrade to an ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump water heater with a $750 discount  for eligible models with a storage capacity of 55 gallons or less. A $400 mail-in rebate is available for heat pump water heater models with a storage capacity greater than 55 gallons.  Whether you’re replacing an old water heater or installing one in a new home, you'll save money up front.

For customers who meet certain income eligibility guidelines, even greater incentives may be available through the Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible program.

ENERGY STAR is a widely recognized and trusted label on products that meet strict energy-efficiency requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. By using less energy, these products also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Learn more at the ENERGY STAR website.

Install a heat pump water heater today and save energy - and money!

Call 877-WISE-USE (877-947-3873) for more information.

  • One of the most energy-efficient water heating systems on the market today
  • 25 to 50 percent savings on electric water-heating costs
  • Programmable options such as “vacation mode” that save energy when you’re away and ensure you have hot water when you return
  • Dehumidify damp spaces such as a basement or unconditioned space

Consider the following factors:

  • For the most efficient operation, the heat pump water heater should be installed in a space where temperatures average at least 50 degrees
  • Because it exhausts cool air, the water heater should not be installed in a heated living area
  • A heat pump water heater should be installed with at least 750 cubic feet of space around it

There are two ways to receive the discount on qualifying heat pump water heater units:

Work with an installer

When your installing contractor purchases a qualifying unit at a participating distributor in Connecticut, a $750 instant discount will be automatically applied to the eligible equipment cost. A $400 rebate will be automatically applied for eligible models with more than 55 gallons of storage capacity.

Purchase a qualifying unit from a participating retailer

Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) partner with several retailers across the state to offer you instant discounts and/or paper rebates for heat pump water heaters. You may purchase a heat pump water heater directly from the retailer to receive:

  • A $750 instant discount through participating Retail Stores with address verification for eligible models with a storage capacity of 55 gallons or less.

OR

  • A $750 mail-in rebate will be provided to residential customers who are not able to validate eligibility in store.
  • A $400 mail-in rebate is available for ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heater models with a storage capacity greater than 55 gallons.
