Information & Tips
Since 80% of American homes have clothes dryers, a large shift to ENERGY STAR certified dryers could significantly reduce annual utility costs and greenhouse emissions across the country. By switching to ENERGY STAR certified dryers, Americans could save more than $1.5 billion each year in utility costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 2 million vehicles.
ENERGY STAR certified heat pump dryers use up to 30% less energy than standard dryers by recirculating heated air so they don’t need to constantly create heat. They heat the air, send the heat to your clothes which moistens the air, remove the moisture from the air, and then recirculate the air, which is still heated, back into the clothes to repeat the cycle. Instead of using a vent, they pass humid air through a condenser to remove moisture efficiently. The condensed moisture can then be drained or emptied from your dryer.
Energy-efficient dryers save energy by using sensors to detect when your clothes are dry, and automatically turning off. This prevents wear and tear on your clothes from over-drying. ENERGY STAR certified dryers also offer a steam cycle, which can prevent wrinkles in your clothes.
ENERGY STAR is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency, providing credible, unbiased information that you can rely on to make well-informed decisions. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ensures that each product that earns the ENERGY STAR label is independently certified to deliver efficiency, performance, and savings.
