Green STEP (Sustainability Technical Education Program)

A “green” workforce development program in partnership with the high school system throughout the State of Connecticut.

The mission of Green STEP is to supplement existing high school curriculum with specialized training workshops related to science, technology, engineering and math, known as S.T.E.M., sustainability and energy efficiency, while increasing student awareness of job opportunities in the fields of sustainability, energy efficiency, including weatherization and home performance, and clean energy production.

Green STEP has historically offered in-school workshops and certification trainings to students in the Connecticut Technical Education & Careers System (CTECS) schools. Recently, Green STEP has opened programming to public high schools throughout the State with the launch of two pilot programs – the Virtual Green STEP After School Certification program, launched in fall 2022, and the Green STEP Summer Certification Program, in July 2023. These paid-to-train programs offer students the opportunity to gain industry certifications and hands-on technical training, all while earning monetary incentives.

Additionally, the program has engaged thousands of students through annual career fairs and supported students in creating award-winning sustainability-related projects for the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair.
