  • Duct sealing (if applicable) for better airflow efficiency
  • Water-saving devices to reduce water usage and water heating costs
  • Rebates on recommended upgrades, including high efficiency heating, cooling and water heating equipment and up to 75 percent for approved insulation

Income-Based Offers

If your tenants meet income eligibility requirements, you may qualify for even greater incentives:

  • Up to 100 percent off approved insulation projects 
  • Enhanced incentives for energy-saving upgrades like heating, cooling and water heating equipment, window replacements and more

Note: For three-unit properties, at least two units must qualify for Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible. For two- or four-unit properties, at least 50 percent of the units must qualify, potentially making the entire property eligible

Landlord FAQs

Eligibility and Participation

    Properties with four or fewer rental units may qualify for Home Energy Solutions or Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible. Eligibility is based on tenant income and property details. Services cannot have been received withing the past six years.

    You must own the property in order to participate, but you do not need to live in it.

    No, but landlords need to inform tenants and give 24 hours’ notice before entering the rental units.

    Yes, tenants can initiate the application and income verification process through Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible. However, landlord authorization is required to proceed.

    We can provide guidance on verifying eligibility. Tenants do not need to disclose sensitive details to landlords.

    Upgrades and Incentives

      Landlords can access:

      • No-cost air sealing and water-saving devices
      • Market Rate: Up to 75% off approved insulation upgrades (up to $10,000)
      • Income-eligible: Up to 100% off approved insulation
      • Rebates and Incentives for energy-efficient heating, cooling, and water heating equipment and energy-efficient appliances
         

      Rebates through Home Energy Solutions apply only to qualifying upgrades recommended during the home energy assessment and service. Visit EnergizeCT.com to discover further savings opportunities.

      Weatherization upgrades can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 15 percent. Upgrading inefficient appliances or installing high-efficiency heating and cooling systems can provide additional savings.

      Cost and Process

        • Home Energy Solutions: Copay of $75 per unit (may be waived if all units participate at once)
        • Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible: No cost for qualifying properties

        Costs depend on eligibility and recommendations made during the assessment and service. The Sponsors of Energize Connecticut offer generous rebates and incentives and financing is available for any remaining costs.

        • The initial assessment takes four to six hours
        • Upgrade timelines vary depending on the upgrades you decide to implement 
           

        Logistics and Contractors

          The costs for implementing energy efficiency measure in your property is the owner’s responsibility. Rebates and incentives from the Sponsors of Energize Connecticut are designed to make upgrades more affordable to you. Your Home Energy Solutions contractor can also provide guidance on available financing options.

          The Home Energy Solutions contractor will be assigned to you. For additional upgrades, such as insulation, heat pump installations or advanced duct sealing, you can choose an approved contractor within these networks:

          Most assessments and installations are minimally invasive and completed in one visit. Work with your contractor to schedule work at convenient times.
